Cayenne Salve

Sore muscles happen frequently around my house. My husband and I workout often, lifting heavy weights, and my two girls are busy dancers. Sore muscles just happen. I prefer to use homemade remedies over store bought pain medication. Cayenne Salve is great for rubbing on sore muscles without the side effects of over-the-counter pain medication. It is easy to make too! Here is what you need to do to make your own salve:

Ingredients:
1/2 cup organic olive oil
2 tablespoons of cayenne powder ( I get mine at Mountain Rose Herbs)
1 tablespoon beeswax ( I get this at Mountain Rose Herbs too)
Double boiler or small bowl to place over a pot
Cheesecloth

Directions:
Start by making cayenne infused oil over a double boiler. Heat the olive oil and cayenne pepper in a double boiler for one hour. You wan to keep it warm for an hour before using it in the recipe. You can also infuse the oil overnight if you prefer.

After you have infused the oil, strain off the cayenne powder with a cheesecloth. I lay a piece of cheesecloth over a small bowl and pour the oil over the top. Then squeeze the last bit of oil out of the cheesecloth. We don't want to waste any of that liquid gold:)

Heat the beeswax in the double boiler until it is melted. Then stir in the infused oil until they are completely mixed. The beeswax might harden a bit again. Don't worry! It will melt again into the oil.

Quickly pour the mixture into a glass jar or small tins. I bought my tins on Amazon. They came with cute little labels too!

Let it cool and then label it. You now have Cayenne Salve!
